assistant Professor of Economics (Tenure Track)Ursinus College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Business and Economics at the assistant professor level in economics beginning fall 2010. Main teaching responsibilities are in macroeconomics, international finance and trade, and transitional economies. Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts setting. New faculty are expected to teach in the interdisciplinary first-year seminar program. Candidates should demonstrate evidence and promise of an on-going research agenda and a willingness to supervise student research. Ursinus offers an early leave after a reappointment recommendation at the fourth year review, and offers competitive programs for summer research support through the Summer Fellows Program (an eight week student-faculty research collaboration) and/or Summer 2000 Grants.
The Department of Business and Economics has an integrated curriculum in which students take a set of core courses that includes both business and economic foundation courses. Faculty are expected to draw material and examples from the two disciplines in order to bridge theory and practice. The department has designed a program where the core courses include key elements of effective oral and written communications. Quantitative analysis is also a keystone of the curriculum. All students are required to take calculus, business statistics and econometrics, and must complete a senior research paper using econometric analysis. The department has over 200 majors; 10% percent of the seniors typically participate in the department’s honor’s program. Honor students and rising juniors participate at the O.D.E Undergraduate Research conference in April.
