COLLECTIONS - Outdoor Sculpture

Contemporary sculpture, an area of collecting the Bermans are passionate about, is well represented, with a large selection of maquettes by Buki Schwartz, Igael Tumarkin, Manashe Kadishman, Lynn Chadwick and others commissioned by Muriel and Philip Berman.  The grounds of Ursinus College hold a significant collection of 20th century sculpture, 80 artworks, specifically sited and documented on a Walking Tour Map published by and available on the web and at the Berman Museum of Art.  The outdoor sculpture collection is available for viewing from sunrise to sunset.

"Outdoor sculpture invites us to look and to think about the art, about the landscape, and ultimately, about the relationship between art, nature and ourselves.  Sculpture is not a code asking to be unraveled so much as a human creation inviting us to pause and reflect—especially on our humanity in relationship to the environment we inhabit—even as we go about our daily lives." -John Strassburger, Ursinus College President, 1994-2010
