TECHNICAL DIRECTOR – THEATER AND DANCE

The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of theater and dance productions on the Ursinus stages in the Kaleidoscope Center for the Performing Arts.  The TD works closely with producers of theatrical productions and dance concerts (producers are the full-time faculty of the Theater and Dance department) and guest professional designers (scenic, lighting, costume, projection, sound) to implement theatrical designs. 

Primary responsibilities include:  building sets with student workers and supervising the hanging and focusing of lights for two theater shows and one dance concert per semester; organizing and maintaining the stage houses, shop area, and stock/storage; organizing and maintaining lighting, sound, and video equipment; pricing and coordinating purchases for each production as needed.  The TD will work with the faculty on production management; she/he will help to train and supervise operators and crews consisting of students for all productions during the technical rehearsals and at the start of each semester when crew members are assigned initially.  The TD will assist the faculty to oversee the safe running of the students’ theater and dance group productions (Escape Velocity Dance Troupe and Breakaway Student Productions).  The TD also communicates closely with college facilities, and the Technical Operations Director (responsible for the smooth running of events that are not part of the Theater and Dance department).  There is the possibility of teaching responsibilities (such as Stagecraft and Stage Management), depending on the candidate’s academic experience.  

Qualifications include: Proven professional and/or higher education record in technical direction and an MA/MFA required.  Design experience/training a plus.
