Student Academic Advisor

Under the supervision of the Director of First-Year Programs, a Student Academic Adviser provides first-year students with academic support through individual meetings and workshops.

  • Assist students in assigned First-Year Center (BWC or BPS) with academic transition from high school to college
  • Hold three “office hours” per week in assigned First-Year Center lounge
  • Support First-Year RAs in academic programming needs
  • Familiarize students with the UC website, NetClassroom, and other academic resources
  • Help first-year students develop study strategies and time management skills
  • Meet with first-year students as needed prior to Spring Registration meeting with First-Year Adviser
  • Assist students in building relationships with faculty and adviser
  • Work with supervisor to plan and present academic programs and workshops
  • Meet weekly with supervisor
  • Participate in training (August 21-22) and in August Orientation (August 23-26)


  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with peers, faculty, and staff
  • Understand and help process problems of first-year advisees
  • Take initiative and work autonomously while being able to take direction


  • Completion of three semesters at UC
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • In good standing with the College


  • $500/semester


Student Assistant

This position may be shared by two students who act as receptionist/office assistant for The Center for Academic Support. There are current openings for Monday & Tuesday afternoons only at this time from approximately 1 to 5 pm.

Candidate should demonstrate:

  • Good customer service skills
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel and Access
  • Good character: dependable, mature, and able to work independently or with others
  • Ability to maintain the office need for confidentiality
