Get involved

Current Ursinus students can get involved with UC EMS in two ways:

  • If you are not a certified Emergency Medical Technician or First Responder, but are CPR certified, you may join our Observer program. As an Observer of UC EMS, you will be on duty with a Provider for 12- or 24-hours shifts throughout the semester. You will respond to any call that occurs during that shift, and be allowed to observe everything that happens as the call progresses. Your Providers will teach you exactly how UC EMS works, and what you would do as a Provider of UC EMS.

  • If you are already a certified Emergency Medical Technician or First Responder, you may transition directly into our Trainee Program. By participating in this program, you will be on duty with a Field Training Officer (FTO) for 12- or 24-hour shifts throughout the semester. You will respond to any call that occurs during your shift and, under the guidance of your FTO, be the primary caregiver on whatever calls you receive. Your FTO will teach you exactly how UC EMS works, and what you would do as a Provider of UC EMS. After passing our Trainee Examination, you will be promoted to a full Provider, and be given permission to respond to emergency calls by yourself.
