Why Ursinus?

Ursinus is a prestigious national liberal arts college educating undergraduate students since 1869. The heart of our educational philosophy is that deep and consequential learning results from a program of personalized and rigorous education.

We Add Value

You begin your four years at Ursinus curious, engaged, and ambitious. You graduate equipped—in knowledge, skill and judgment—to not simply make a living but to make a life of purpose.

How do we do this? We provide you with a personalized education with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity and opportunities for experiential learning.

Personalized Education

A personalized education develops character and the skills to make sound judgments. At Ursinus you will experience small classes and one-on-one academic advising, with many opportunities for professor-student interaction.

With a student to faculty ratio of 12:1 and no graduate teaching assistants, Ursinus gives you the privileges and responsibilities of becoming researchers, writers, thinkers and artists alongside your professors. Faculty and staff know you by name and can guide and mentor you in ways not possible at larger campuses. Most faculty members include their students as partners in research projects.

The traditional four-year college experience should be a time for you to discover your passions and to test ideas and values with the help of teachers and peers.

Advances in knowledge and research are taking place at the intersections of disciplines. You may choose to double-major in order to embrace opportunities for such crossovers. Our students are able to combine business and chemistry or history and media studies, gaining multiple perspectives to find innovative solutions. Ursinus students recognize the ways in which seemingly disparate subject matters relate. They thrive when multiple interests connect and influence each other. Here, interdisciplinarity is not only allowed; it’s encouraged.

A recent report noted that “students who double-major are more apt than their single-majoring peers to think both integratively and creatively.”

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning prepares you for the next chapter of your life. At Ursinus these opportunities include learning communities, writing-intensive courses, collaborative projects, undergraduate research, service learning, and internships.

Through our “liberal arts plus” approach you will find a campus community committed to proactively and systematically working with you on career counseling and placement, involving staff and alumni in applied learning, and bridging the undergraduate experience to work and graduate study.
