The Ursinus CFA Challenge team of Robert Glanville, Gabe Gordon, Ryan Pinter and Gavin Reeves won the 2016 Philadelphia CFA Challenge Feb. 17 at the Union League of Philadelphia. They competed against finalist teams from the University of Delaware and two separate teams from Elizabethtown College.
“The team turned in an absolutely outstanding performance,” said faculty adviser Eric Parnell. “They were all completely on mark with their respective parts of the presentation and they were impressive in their handling of what was a challenging Q & A session. Overall, the team did a great job and it was a victory well earned.”
The global competition provides college and university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. The team researched and analyzed a publicly traded company, Toll Brothers home builders in this case. They wrote a research report on the assigned company and made a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold, presenting and defending their analysis to a panel of industry professionals.
The Ursinus team advances to the Americas Regional Finals in Chicago during the week of April 11 to compete against 50 teams from across the western hemisphere, with the opportunity to earn one of two spots to advance to the Global Finals later that week against the winners from the Asia Pacific (20 teams) and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions (30 teams). Over 865 schools worldwide participated in the Challenge.
The competition is sponsored by the CFA (Chartered Financial Analysts) of Philadelphia. The challenge offers real-life experience as an equity analyst.
