Behind the Doors of the SkM Lab

Dr. April Carpenter established the SkM lab at Ursinus College in Fall of 2015.  The SkM lab studies inflammatory cell regulation of regeneration following skeletal muscle injury in mice.

Skeletal muscle injury is extremely common, can be quite debilitating and really impact quality of life.  Currently, few therapies exist to improve or speed repair. The SkM lab studies inflammatory cell regulation of regeneration following skeletal muscle injury in mice.  In particular, the technical interest of the lab is in understanding how wnt ligands produced by macrophages influence endothelial integrity and expansion.  Although the lab is known affectionately on campus as “the rat lab”, it is the smaller white mice that are test subjects. Several students are enjoying the important research work they are completing alongside Dr. Carpenter.
