Students present their research at Latin American Studies Conference

Susie Zelaya Rivera (’19) and Amanda Turcios (’20) presented papers at the Greater Philadelphia Latin American Studies Consortium Student Conference

Susie Zelaya Rivera (’19) and Amanda Turcios (’20) presented their research at the Greater Philadelphia Latin American Studies Consortium Student Conference. The conference this year was held at Bryn Mawr College on April 12.

Susie presented a paper titled “Structural Violence: Analysis on Nicaragua’s national security and health-care barriers in Pearl Lagoon”. Amanda’s paper was titled “Dominican Women: The Relationship between Anti-Blackness, European Beauty Standards, and Hypersexuality”. 

Susie will graduate this year with a double major in Culture and Health and Spanish and a minor in Latin American Studies. Amanda Turcios is completing an Anthropology and Sociology major with a Latin American Studies minor.
