Entrepreneurial spirit fostered at UC leads to real-world success.
“Since leaving Ursinus, I have been able to find a career I truly love. I landed a job with Stateside Vodka as a sales rep, helping grow a new brand in the area in which I grew up. The role comes with the entrepreneurial spirit that I’ve craved since being at Ursinus. Each day I get to meet new people and own the opportunity to grow and establish a brand that’s only five years old.
Ursinus afforded me the opportunities to learn, grow, and figure out what I really wanted to do. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a career in a field where my effort dictated the result, and the classes and professors at Ursinus helped me grow that spirit. The curriculum at the college was one that pushed me. It never let me settle for average, and I don’t take that for granted. I truly don’t think I’d be where I am without the relationships I formed and grew over my time at Ursinus.
Working closely with my economic professors helped me see things through a different lens. I was also able to work in the athletics department while I was in school, which helped develop a sense of ownership over events and games I worked. Being a student assistant with the football team, after no longer being able to play, was one of my favorite experiences and has led to a love of coaching that led to me to coaching at Lancaster Catholic High School with another Ursinus alumnus, Steve Humma ’15. The experiences I had working on campus helped shape where my career led.
My time at Ursinus left me with friendships and relationships that’ll last a lifetime. To say Ursinus prepared me for life after graduation would be an understatement. Without the push and the room to grow into the person who knew what they wanted, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I have Ursinus to thank for that!” - Brendon O’Shea ’17
