Ursinus Digital Commons Surpasses 500,000 Downloads

This summer, Ursinus College’s institutional repository, Digital Commons @ Ursinus, reached a new milestone with over half a million item downloads from researchers around the world since the repository launched in late 2014.

Digital Commons @ Ursinus, a service provided by Myrin Library, is the college’s institutional repository.  It showcases the intellectual and creative output of Ursinus College faculty, students, alumni and staff, and ensures long-term preservation and worldwide electronic accessibility.  Downloads have been recorded from over 14,000 institutions in 215 countries.  Duke University, University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University are among the top ten educational institutions downloading content.  The repository features student work including CoSA Day presentations, Summer Fellows research, Honors theses and the Annual Student Art Exhibition.  Class projects, performances, essays and more are also available.

The repository is also home to the Library’s digital Archives and Special Collections, highlights of which include: Ursinus College Ruby yearbooks, Ursinus College newspapers, Lantern literary magazines, and the Pennsylvania Folklife Society Collection.  Ursinus has also partnered with community members like Historic Trappe in order to preserve and provide access to items such as the Collegeville Independent newspaper.

The Library is eager to partner with faculty and staff to begin new collections and ensure that the work of you and your students is represented in the repository.  Please contact Andy Prock, Scholarly Communications & Metadata Librarian, for more information.
