by Rebecca Evans, Co-Director of the Melrose Center for Global Civic Engagement
In early February, a major earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, killing tens of thousands and displacing many more from their homes. UNICEF responded immediately, working to provide food, water, shelter and sanitation to displaced children and families. Groups affiliated with the Melrose Center organized a fundraiser, selling Insomnia cookies and collecting donations. Thanks to the efforts of Melrose Fellows, Model UN delegates, Bonner Leaders and Scholars in Service - as well as the generosity of the Ursinus community - $1,154 was raised to help UNICEF sustain its efforts.
