Disability and Access takes Texas!

Joanna Timmerman, assistant director of disability and access, recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas to represent the college at an affiliate conference for the Association for Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). 

Timmerman, grateful for warm weather but certainly missing campus, was invited to present on emotional support animal policies and trends in a workshop titled: Party Animals? Discussing emotional support animal policies and assessment (presentation will be available on the ODA website shortly).

In discussion with colleagues, Timmerman was able to understand how other institutions are understanding and handling requests for emotional support animals, and she is certainly happy to come away with strategies that other institutions are using to support student athletes and those students who may not have access to an emotional support animal.

In addition to her own presentation, Timmerman was able to attend sessions on data in disability services and even a session on the accommodations software used by disability and access at Ursinus.

Overall, Timmerman had a great time sharing experiences and resources with colleagues out west a-ways, and she can’t wait to bring that information back to share with the Ursinus community!
