New Documentary Features Ursinus Disability Day of Mourning Vigil

Ursinus College’s annual Disability Day of Mourning vigil is prominently featured in a new documentary, Unthinkable, which calls attention to the murders of people who have disabilities by their family members.

Ursinus College is one of nearly 40 organizations to host an annual Disability Day of Mourning vigil to grieve those disabled individuals who have lost their lives to filicide in the past five years, and to call for action.

A new documentary, Unthinkable, produced primarily by people who identify as having disabilities, features footage from Ursinus’s 2023 event and includes interviews with Associate Professor of Psychology Jennifer Frymiare and Ursinus students involved with the UC Possibilities organization.

Disability Day of Mourning invites us to honor people whose lives were stolen from them by recognizing the ways that people with disabilities are too often treated as burdens. Ursinus fist organized a vigil in 2018. Read more about the Ursinus vigil and watch a video of the 2023 event here.
