Career Path

To anyone who wants to succeed in the expanding markets of the 21st Century, knowledge of the languages, cultures, and politics of East Asia is indispensable.

The art, religion, music, literature, and philosophy of East Asia have long been among humanity’s greatest achievements, and are increasingly influential. Most of the people on our planet now live in East Asia and in countries of the Pacific Rim—a region home to the world’s fastest growing economy.

What Can I Do?

Career paths in East Asian studies are as varied as the possibilities for in-depth study of the discipline, including

  • international business
  • import-export management
  • banking
  • diplomacy
  • journalism
  • teaching
  • law

The major can be used as a stepping stone to graduate study in law or business administration, history or politics, religion or philosophy, as well as in area studies. Ursinus, moreover, is one of only two institutions in Pennsylvania that offers secondary school certification in teaching Japanese as a second language.
