Fieldwork and Internships

Twenty-five miles from the heart of Philadelphia, Ursinus offers innumerable opportunities for students to perform research and gain introductory clinical experience.

Psychology and Education major, Amanda Carideo ’25 worked in Lindenhurst School District as a school psychology intern, where she shadowed a school psychologist.
While studying abroad in Argentina, Lizzy Hicks ’25 worked for the Red Cross, where she participated in community engagement and outreach, training volunteers, providing first aid, and testing for Syphilis and HIV.
Syd D'Averso participated in Dr. Lawrence’s lab in Spring 2024, where she researched the long-term psychological impact of childhood sibling loss.
Olivia Losurdo ’25, a student in Dr. Bish’s lab researches the correlation between concussions and prefrontal cortex executive functioning capacity/deficits. She presented their research at the Association for Psychological Science 2024 conference in San Francisco.
Gillian Falen ’25 is interning at Renewal House located in Upstate New York. Renewal House is an advocacy, support, and resource center for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Interested students will spend at least a semester in the field, supervised by a professional, in diverse sites, including:

Medical and rehabilitation centers
Nursing homes
Women’s centers
Community mental health centers
Corporations

The William A. Norcross, M.D. ’70 Fund for Internships in Mental Health Advocacy, Addiction and Recovery, and Suicide Prevention supports opportunities for students to work at non-profit organizations focusing on these important areas, gaining hands-on knowledge and experience that prepares them for future careers of impact for our community.
