CANCELED: Embodied Diversity and Inclusion Practices: Rosely Conz

Rosely Conz is an artist and Assistant Professor of dance at Alma College in Michigan. Her work focuses on immigration and identity and at this event, she will screen Uprooted a dance-for-camera that uses metaphor and movement to address issues of immigration. In addition to facilitating a conversation on how dance can be involved in immigration, Conz will introduce the concepts of Antropofagia, a Brazilian artistic manifesto that argues for cultural cannibalism as a form of resistance to colonization. Overall the conversation will explore concepts of colonization/decolonization and how they inform and contribute to diversifying practices in arts education, having broad implications across campus for embodied teaching and creative practice.

CANCELED: Embodied Diversity and Inclusion Practices: Kayla Hamilton

Kayla Hamilton’s work encompasses the intersection of race, gender, and ability and takes audiences on a journey into able-body, impairment, and privilege. At Ursinus College, she will be working in collaboration with dance students to explore perceptions, assumptions, and surveillance during the creation of a new work for the Ursinus College Dance Concert in Spring 2020. Come to this open process showing and conversation about dance making practices to learn more about how dance explores embodied intersectionality.
