The Virtual Ursinus College Dance Concert

Thank you for joining us for the Ursinus College Dance Concert Spring 2020! Each semester students work together with professional designers, choreographers, and guest artists to create a professional learning environment for dance production. In these unprecedented times, we decided to move forward with UCDC, discovering and expanding our creativity of what dance could be in virtual space.

Looking Back and Leaning Forward

The theme of this year’s 150th anniversary “Looking Back, and Leaning Forward” is never more potent than it is today. We look back into work by alumni, Kelly Cinalli & Colleen Walsh Cecchi, and the steadfast relationship and artistry of Jeannine Osayande who has students reflecting on their multi-year work in her classes and choreography. The past, our ancestors, always are inextricably linked to the now, and our future. The land and people of the Lanape and the Susquehannock, are part of this history. We lean forward into digital technology that asks for new ways to connect, create, and care for and with each other.

The concert features our annual African Dance Residency with Jeannine Osayande & Dunya Performing Arts Company; Alumni Residency with Kelly Cinalli & Colleen Walsh Cecchi; and students in Dance Repertory taught by Bailey Anderson. Each choreographer took a different route in presenting their work in this forum so please take your time exploring the different works and ways of sharing dance in a virtual space.

A special thanks to Ursinus College Arts and Lectures for financial support of the African Dance Ensemble, and Jordan Scharaga, Erin Hovey, Sue Ragusa and James Futter who all stepped forward and took on extra work to make this website possible. Thank you for your direct and visible support of dance at Ursinus College.

Lastly, instead of purchasing a ticket to the show, please consider donating any amount to Ursinus College’s Bear2Bear fund. The Bear2Bear Student Emergency Fund was created so that students have access to resources that will ensure that their educational journeys are not derailed by the financial burdens that unexpected emergencies may bring.

Thank you for joining us and supporting dance during this unexpected time and enjoy the virtual performances!
