BERMAN NATIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Mission:

The mission of the Berman National Advisory Council (BNAC) is to harness the expertise of its members to advocate for and support the museum’s success and sustainability. Members advise on matters concerning policies, procedures, finances, and acquisitions/deaccessions with appropriate standards and protocols consistent with American Alliance of Museums accreditation.

Purpose & Vision:

Founded in 2013, the Berman National Advisory Council is comprised of a broad range of individuals with interests in academia and art, including museum professionals, supporters, members of the Ursinus College Board of Trustees, Ursinus College alumni, corporate leaders, the Ursinus College Senior Vice President of Advancement, the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean, and current Ursinus College students and faculty. The Council is limited to 20 members. Members serve for three-year terms, renewable for a second term (total 6 years). Members must rotate off for one year after their second term. New members are proposed and invited by the Executive Director and the Chairperson of BNAC.

The BNAC Chairperson is appointed by the President of Ursinus College, in consultation with the Berman Executive Director and Chair of the Ursinus College Board of Trustees, for a three-year renewable term.

Meetings occur twice yearly, in the fall and spring. The Ursinus College Senior Vice President of Advancement, Vice President for Academic Affairs/Academic Dean, and at least one member of the Ursinus College Board of Trustees must vote either in person or electronically in relation to acquisitions and deaccessions.

BNAC supports Berman Museum of Art (BMA) staff in its goals, and helps raise the profile of the Museum both on the Ursinus College campus as well as regionally and nationally. Members shall have a fiduciary and philanthropic responsibility to the Berman Museum of Art. Individuals will be expected to support the Museum with tangible and intangible gifts and to serve as ambassadors and door openers to others.

Included in its mission, BNAC is charged with: the review, approval and/or denial of potential acquisitions and de-accessioning to the BMA permanent collection; the assessment and approval of formal BMA policies; offering advice and assistance on the programmatic direction of BMA; and helping to identify and solicit potential funding opportunities for the Museum’s operation and capital needs. Through their mission, BNAC members are placed in a unique position to assist both the BMA and Ursinus College in achieving higher levels of excellence and recognition.
