March 13 - Important Update Regarding Campus Operating Status

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Thank you for being flexible while we continue to work though this challenging and uncertain time. We have not received further details from Governor Wolf’s office regarding school closures throughout the state, and we continue to seek clarification on how that will impact our campus.

In the meantime, employees are strongly encouraged to work from home over the next two weeks, until Monday, March 30. Exceptions will be granted for employees engaged in essential operations, such as those working in facilities and campus safety, whose responsibilities require their regular presence on campus, or if employees are not able to complete essential functions remotely. Our goal is to limit the number of people on campus over the next two weeks in order to minimize impact relating to COVID-19. Resources for teaching, learning and working remotely can be found online at https://go.ursinus.edu/WorkingRemotely and include tools and services for faculty, staff and students who are off campus. Please work directly with your supervisors to make arrangements for working remotely.

Please note that if you do not have the means to work from home, and you are not engaged in essential operations as determined by your supervisor, you should stay home, at least over these two weeks. Also, if you are ill, or have reasons to be concerned about elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 (see the CDC description here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html), please notify your supervisor and stay home. We are still working through the details, but the college will ensure that employees do not suffer financially by taking this public health step.

As a reminder, students are expected to remain off campus until Sunday, March 29. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis for extenuating circumstances; the requests must be made formally through https://go.ursinus.edu/HousingSurvey and be approved by residence life.

Additionally, the Wellness Center will continue to keep regular hours by appointment next week; mail services will maintain regular hours and delivery; and the cleaning staff continues to sanitize buildings, in addition to routine daily cleaning.

Important updates will continue to be shared on the Ursinus website at https://ursinus.edu/coronavirus and via our free mobile app, MobileU, which can be downloaded on the Apple app store and Google Play. Furthermore, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please email covid19@ursinus.edu and a member of the COVID-19 task force will respond to you as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Mark Schneider
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean
