Dear Ursinus Student,
First and foremost, I hope that you and your families are staying in good health and keeping safe as we begin our summer.
As mentioned in my town hall meeting on April 24 and in related communications, we understand that students continue to experience financial hardships as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. This unsettling environment may continue to create a sense of unease for many Ursinus families, many of whom have shared their stories with us. Though that uncertainty may persist for some, we are now able to share with you some positive developments about new funding for eligible students through the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Ursinus College received approximately $1.1 million dollars in CARES funding, of which $550,000 will go directly to students. While the federal government has given each institution discretion in the use of the other half of CARES funds, we are committed to using the entire remainder to support our students. A percentage of that total will be used specifically to support the various financial needs of our families as they arise on an individual, case-by-case basis.
In determining how best to support students with the available CARES Act funding, Ursinus College reviewed students currently enrolled for the spring 2020 semester. Eligibility for the funds was based on federal guidelines and restrictions.
On behalf of the college, please find enclosed a check representing our commitment to you as an Ursinus student. We hope this emergency financial aid grant will help offset some of the expenses you may have incurred during this unprecedented and challenging time.
