The Medusa Play

Our production of The Medusa Play is a world premiere. It is written by Ursinus theater major Angela Antoinette Bey ’19 and is the first student work we have produced on our mainstage in almost 20 years.  Angela is an advanced playwriting student who written for the Philadelphia Young Playwrights Festival, interned at the Wilma Theater, and performed in Twelfth Night this past summer in Philadelphia’s Shakespeare in Clark Park.  The Medusa Play is a contemporary version of the Medusa myth which is focused on a group of young artists living together in Philadelphia.   Like the mythical Medusa, the lead character Meddie seems to be a contradiction: a hero? a villain?  How you interpret Meddie and her choices depends on how you view the truth of her situation.
