Screening of Ava Duvernay’s documentary 13th

13th is the 2016 Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated documentary from filmmaker Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time).

This film traces America’s history of racial inequality and the explosive growth of America’s prison system.  Included are interviews with activists, politicians, and scholars (including Michelle Alexander, author of one of our CIE texts, The New Jim Crow), plus video and news footage of pivotal events from America’s past.  [Please be advised: some of the imagery contained in the video/news footage is graphic and  may be upsetting to some viewers.]
