“Forging the Industrial Imagination: Science, Technology
and Culture in fin-de-siglo Spain”
“My lecture explores how industrial modernization in Spain transformed approaches to social, economic, and educational reform during late nineteenth century in Spain. I explain how a diverse set of social actors—including writers, politicians, scientist, educators, and urban planners—attempted to apply industrial concepts and operational models to social problems. By translating new forms of scientific and technical knowledge into the social realm, these actors redefined national challenges as objects of scientific inquiry and institutional intervention. In the talk, I will describe how the interplay between technology and politics operates, how I got engaged with this fascinating topic, and how it informs my current and future research.”
Refreshments will be at 3:45 and the talk will begin at 4:15.
