Braids of Freedom: Ceramic Workshop

Exhibiting artist Sahar Tarighi will guide you through making a ceramic braid from fabric and clay slip in solidarity with calls for freedom around the world.

Details

There are about a hundred braids on the walls of Sahar Tarighi’s current exhibition Şamaran شاماران: Threads of TransformationThey allude to the traditions and unrest in the artist’s culture and homeland.

Tarighi invites you to make a braid of your own in solidarity with the calls for freedom around the world. In this workshop, she’ll teach you how to sculpt them using fabric and clay slip. The completed braids will be fired in the college’s kiln and added to the exhibition.

The workshop is free and open to participants 12+. Please let us know you’re coming so we can ensure there are enough supplies available. You are welcome to stay for the whole workshop or check out the exhibitions at the Berman before/after you make your braid.

This event will be held in the studio space at Ritter Hall, building 15 in the map below, instead of the Berman Museum of Art. We recommend parking in the Wismer lot. There will be signage to help direct you.
