Student-written Play Opening in Blackbox

Angela Bey’s The Playground will be performed by the student-run group Breakaway Productions.

Sophomore Angela Bey’s original play, The Playground, will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday by Breakaway Student Productions in the Blackbox Theater at 7:30 p.m.

Bey wrote the play with Philadelphia Young Playwrights, and when members of the student acting troupe, Breakaway, read the play, they asked to put it on. Bey was the first theater scholarship winner at Ursinus, and is active in theater and dance productions and as a writer.

The Playground, Bey says, “is about memory and the loss of innocence in childhood. It’s very visceral.”

The production stars Jordan Hodess ’17, and is directed by Tommy Armstrong ’20.

The cost is $2 for students and $3 general admission. Tickets can be reserved by emailing
