Is It Time To Ditch The Autism Puzzle Piece?
A paper co-authored by Jennifer Stevenson, an assistant professor of psychology, was cited in an article on Disability Scoop, the nation’s largest news organization devoted to covering developmental disabilities. In this paper, Dr. Stevenson and her collaborators investigated whether puzzle pieces evoke positive or negative associations in the general public. The research was motivated by a current debate on the use of puzzle pieces to represent autism because many autistic and non-autistic people argue they evoke negativity and therefore should not be used.
