"Dear Readers"

Dear Readers

We began this spring semester with an inspiring week of activities honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I could not be more proud of a campus community that came together to reflect and to celebrate the ideals that Dr. King—and many other thought leaders, artists, writers, activists and performers—championed through their words and actions.

The week culminated with the official launch of our new Institute for Inclusion and Equity, a space in Wismer Center that will be used to foster important dialogue and innovative programming around issues of equity, diversity and social justice on campus and beyond.

As I mentioned in my remarks to the campus community that day, I think we are fortunate here at Ursinus to have a truly interesting and rather unique perspective on many of the cultural events that are in play across our country. As you may know, Ursinus’s roots are in the “low church.” Since our founding, we have been more adaptive and amenable to change—a bit less structured and rigid, and less traditional in our outlook.

It’s a legacy that we still embrace today—and, in many respects, it is more relevant than ever before. This and future generations of students, faculty and staff are more diverse in their heritage, experiences and outlooks on life. But we still have a lot to learn and we still have so many ways we can improve, not only as a residential college, but also at the personal level.

So I challenge all of us to step up and be leaders. Seek strength in one another and be committed to learning from one another. In many respects,

Brock Blomberg
President
