New Chaplain Officially Welcomed to Ursinus

A commissioning ceremony was held for Reverend Terri Ofori, chaplain and director of religious and spiritual life, on Oct. 28.

The event held in Bomberger Auditorium featured a keynote address by the Rev. Dr. Claudia Ann Highbaugh on “The Intersection of Chaplaincy and Civic Engagement.” This theme was carried throughout the day with interfaith readings and a talk by Christian Rice ’98, a visiting assistant professor of philosophy and religion and assistant dean for civic engagement.

As director and chaplain, Reverend Ofori provides religious and spiritual leadership and guidance for students and campus religious organizations, facilitating interfaith conversations within a campus context that celebrates religious diversity, and guiding vocational discernment.

Remarks were offered by Debbie Nolan, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, and Mark Schneider, vice president of academic affairs and dean of the college, connected the commissioning to the four questions of the core curriculum. Musical performances included the Ursinus Voices of Praise Gospel Choir.

Attendees included members of the local community, as well as community faith leaders.

Rev. Ofori joined the college in August 2018. She received her master’s degree in theology in education and spiritual formation from Princeton Theological Seminar and she holds a master’s degree in cross cultural theology. Ofori also earned a master of divinity degree from Harvard University along with a bachelor’s degree in history from the Mississippi University for Women.

Ofori is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in theology at Fordham University. —By Monique Kelly
