Jimmy Valentine (Student Teacher) research project
(Temple University, Philadelphia, PA)
Deciding to major in psychology and also obtain my teaching certification in social studies while at Ursinus College was an extremely gratifying and unique experience. It enabled me to develop relationships with professors and students that will last a lifetime. The faculty was extremely helpful and willing to work with me to make it possible to pursue psychology and teaching social studies at the same time.
Furthermore, because of Ursinus I was able to participate in an independent research project which focused on autism spectrum disorder, observe at a local high school for my teaching certification, and play lacrosse at the same time. Participating in so many activities has allowed me to grow into an extremely well-rounded individual because I was able to experience a wide variety of situations and interact with a multitude of different people.
My psychology major has given me a great background in the concepts of thinking, learning, and behavior that will allow me to better understand my students and provide a better opportunity to optimize their learning. After student teaching at Pottsgrove High School, I plan on obtaining my special education certification with a concentration in social studies.
