Ursinus at the Commission on the Status of Women

Fifteen students, staff and faculty from Ursinus are in New York City for the 63rd annual meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women, an intergovernmental body that meets at the United Nations to focus on ways to promote gender equality.

In addition to the meetings of official delegates, hundreds of non-governmental organizations hold parallel events where participants can share experiences and best practices, network with women and men from around the world, and hone their skills through advocacy training sessions.

The trip to the UN Committee on the Status of Women is being sponsored through a community engagement grant and the Ecumenical Women’s Forum as well as Sisters in Spirit, Ursinus’ Model United Nations program, and the Joseph H. Melrose Center for Global Civic Engagement. The coordinating team for the trip includes Reverend Terri Ofori, Chaplain and Director of Spiritual Life, Dr. Rebecca Evans, Associate Professor of Politics and Co-Director of the Joseph H. Melrose Center for Global Civic Engagement, Dr. Johannes Karreth, Assistant Professor of Politics and director, Model United Nations program, and Ashley Henderson, Assistant Director of Inclusion and Equity.
