Dr. Mackler presents at Philosophy of Education Society Conference

Associate Professor of Education Dr. Stephanie Mackler delivered a paper titled, “Let Them Eat Doughnuts:  a defense of philosophical parenting” at the annual Philosophy of Education Society conference in Richmond, Virginia on March 16th.

Mackler has been a leader in the philosophy of education community on discussions of philosophy and child-rearing. In this most recent paper, she argues against those who say that philosophical parenting results in overwhelming anxiety over even the simplest decisions, such as whether to allow a child to eat a doughnut. Rather, Mackler contends that we can “be philosophical and allow children to eat doughnuts, too.” Her paper will be published next year in Philosophy of Education.
