Happy 150th Birthday, Ursinus!
Welcome back to all for Ursinus’s Sesquicentennial celebration year!
Here in the library, we’ve been hard at work for some time now preparing for this special year to honor our past and celebrate our future. College Archivist Carolyn Weigel and Special Collections Librarian Charlie Jamison preserve physical materials from the College’s past in the Ursinusiana Collection and other special collections, such as the John Henry Augustus Bomberger Collection. Be sure to stop by later this year to see some wonderful upcoming exhibits in the display cases on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of Myrin.
Scholarly Communications & Metadata Librarian Andy Prock, with help from Digitization & Operations Technician Gwen Marshall and several student workers, has digitized thousands of historical materials in Ursinus’s Digital Commons, from newspapers past through the most recent Lanterns, and so much more. This summer Andy also worked with current students doing internships at The Mill at Anselma to digitize oral histories and a story map.
Collection Management Librarian Kerry Gibson and Web & Systems Management Librarian Stephen Buss make sure students, faculty and staff have access to the most current journals, books, e-books, films and more through our always evolving WorldCat Discovery search. Please, suggest materials for us! InterLibrary Loan Coordinator Dominique de St. Etienne continues to ensure that if we don’t have access to what you need here, we’ll do our very best to get it for you. Instructional Technology Librarian Christine Iannicelli helps to integrate new technologies into the classroom, assists students with born-digital projects and explores what “digital literacy” means and why it is so important to students today.
The biggest change for right now, in the present, is very visible on the Main Floor of the library, where you will still find the Manager of Library Operations Maureen Damiano: the Circulation Desk and the IT Help Desk have been brought together under the umbrella of Library and IT Services. Stay tuned for a new look at the desk on the Main Floor to come shortly! Save the Date for a special Open House on Thursday, September 26th (more details to follow).
Some of us will be at the Ursinus 150 Fest this coming Sunday, September 1st, and we hope to see you there, too!
Have suggestions for us? Things you’d like to see us do? Materials you’d like us to provide access to? Please contact Director of Research, Teaching & Learning Services Diane Skorina. We’d love to hear from you.
Happy Birthday, Ursinus!
