Inclusive Community Grants 2019-20 Call for Proposals

The Inclusive Community Grants are open to all faculty, staff and students and will provide $250 to $2,500 in funding for a special project during the 2019-20 academic year.

Dear Ursinus community,

We are very pleased to present the call for proposals for the 2019-20 Inclusive Community Grants. This program, created last year, is designed to support the college’s efforts to create an even more inclusive campus environment.

Inclusive community grants

The Inclusive Community Grants are open to all faculty, staff and students and will provide $250 to $2,500 in funding for a special project during the 2019-20 academic year. These projects should address a campus climate concern and promote dialogue among members of the campus community on topics such as race, socioeconomic status, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, religion and disability. Teams of faculty, staff and students representing various departments or organizations on campus are encouraged to work in partnership with one another to design a project that considers those topics.

Multiple projects will be chosen for funding. Proposals must be submitted by these submission dates: Sept. 20, Oct. 25 and Feb. 3. Proposals should be sent to Heather Lobban-Viravong

Faculty, staff and students who apply for these opportunities will be invited to give a brief presentation of their proposal to the campus community during MLK Week 2020 and will be asked to present the results later in the semester. More information on the grants, including guidelines for proposals, can be found on the president’s office website.

The 2018-19 recipients offered many wonderful projects that fostered conversations on issues of equity, diversity and social justice. Where appropriate, a project may be considered for continuation in the following year. We look forward to seeing your proposals.

Inclusive Community Fellowship

Last year, Professor Xochitl Shuru led a successful ICG project, and she will continue this work as the 2019-20 Inclusive Community Fellow, an opportunity that we introduced last year for faculty. Dr. Shuru will collaborate with the Institute for Inclusion and Equity, Student Affairs, and the Latin American Studies academic program to support the growing Latinx community at Ursinus. Dr. Shuru will serve as a mentor to students while developing events and activities on campus that raise awareness of the issues that affect this community. In addition to connecting Latinx students to other student groups and communities on campus, Dr. Shuru will bring members of this community together to strengthen their presence on campus and to create spaces to discuss their unique experiences.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Shuru as this year’s Inclusive Community Fellow.

Sincerely,

Heather Lobban-Viravong,

Vice President for Campus and Community Engagement
