Faculty and Staff

SMART Training Announced

Training for new and returning members of the Sexual Misconduct Advocacy Resource Team (SMART) are announced. New members welcome. SMART is a group of faculty and staff prepared to appropriately and compassionately support students who are affected by sexual violence.

A Message From Kimberly F. Taylor, Associate Dean of Students, Title IX Coordinator

Faculty & Staff Colleagues,

As the College’s Title IX Coordinator and Clery Compliance Officer, I am responsible for assuring compliance with federal mandates regarding Title IX and the Clery Act.  These laws require timely College response to incidents of sexual misconduct and disclosure of crime information on or around campus. All Ursinus faculty and staff are designated as Responsible Employees and Campus Security Authorities making it mandatory to report these incidents if you learn of them.  Additional information about reporting requirements is available via the online training offered by Human Resources.  There is also an overview document on our website:  Mandatory Reporting Requirements.

As the national climate regarding sexual violence continues to evolve, I invite you to become a member of SMART. The Sexual Misconduct Advocacy Resource Team is comprised of faculty and staff members trained to provide support and guidance to community members as we address incidents of campus sexual misconduct.  SMART training is a 90 minute interactive session covering topics including Rape culture; Perpetrator and survivor dynamics, Disclosure and response; and Policy and resources.  Upon completion of the training, SMART members are invited to participate in follow-up discussions, table top exercises, and additional training. When laws change or a sexual violence incident captures national headlines, I will seek out my SMART colleagues to gather feedback and share campus response.  Those members who are comfortable are listed on our web page as a resource for our community.

The following events are currently scheduled for the fall semester.  Additional sessions will be added as the semester progresses.  All events will be listed on the Ursinus Events page and Good Morning, Ursinus email.  Click here to register for an upcoming SMART training.  Current SMART members who would like a refresher are invited to sign up for any intro session.

As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you questions or concerns regarding Title IX or SMART.  Questions regarding the Clery Act can be sent to me or Director of Campus Safety, John Bera (jbera@ursinus.edu).

Be SMART and Safe,

Kim
