Drop-off boxes across campus are being filled with clothing and blankets for needy families in neighboring Norristown community.
Coats, clothes and blankets are in high demand for families living temporarily in a Norristown shelter. Decorated drop off boxes across campus were placed there by Ursinus students leading an outreach effort to keep families in need warm this winter.
“I wanted to do something more for Catholic Social Services this semester than just go there and volunteer each Thursday,” said Kelly Johnson, sophomore Spanish and Peace & Social Justice double major and Bonner scholar. “We thought that a coat drive might be a helpful project that we can pursue.”
So far, Johnson and fellow student, Thamden Wangyal, have collected at least 20 coats or blankets. “We’re very happy with how things are going and might extend the drive until finals.”
