Trails and Tribulations

Exercising While Social Distancing

While gyms around the country are closed, taking a walk or run outside can be one of the best ways to get in some much-needed exercise between Netflix binges.

With social distancing protocols still in mind, finding an outdoor park or trail to run or walk the dog is a fun way to get some fresh air and stretch your legs. Ursinus College track and field coaches Carl Blickle and Crystal Bacon have each listed five of their favorite local running spots that can be found right around the corner from our campus.

Coach Blickle’s five favorite places to run:

  1. Valley Forge Park
  2. Perkiomen Trail (Especially the Green Lane section)
  3. Schuylkill River Trail
  4. Wissahickon Valley Park (Forbidden Drive Trail)
  5. Cromby Trail (starts in Phoenixville/continues into Spring City)

Coach Bacon’s five favorite places to run:

  1. Palmer Park (A great place to run and get a peek at some horses)
  2. Perkiomen Trail
  3. Evansburg Park
  4. Fishers Park
  5. Schuylkill River Trail

Whether searching for a place to safely exercise during the lockdown, or planning your running paths for next semester, these beautiful trails and parks are an excellent place to start. –By Mary Lobo ’15
