The Bar is Set: 2,020 Donors for #Giving2UCday

Ursinus is seeking yet another record number of donors during its largest single-day giving event of the year, #Giving2UCday, which annually coincides with the internationally recognized Giving Tuesday. This year, it will take place on December 1.

Each #Giving2UCday gift supports Ursinus College’s Annual Fund or another designated area of need. Giving provides vital resources for students and makes an impact on Ursinus’s reputation among peer institutions and grant eligibility. Much of the scholarship assistances and financial aid that students receive comes from the college’s unrestricted annual giving program.

“The Annual Fund truly is the foundation of philanthropic support for Ursinus,” says Abbie Cichowski Kim ’10, director of alumni relations and annual giving. “For schools like Ursinus that may not have as large of an endowment as some of our peer institutions, annual giving becomes that much more crucial to sustaining our annual operating budget. This budget impacts nearly every corner of campus: financial aid, student services, campus beautification, student/faculty research, and much more. This year, given the unique set of circumstances COVID presents, it also includes increased costs associated with testing, cleaning and our hybrid learning environments.”

This year, the famed quote etched above Pfahler Hall, “But still try, for who knows what is possible,” attributed to English scientist Michael Faraday, serves as the theme for #Giving2UCday. It’s a reminder that—even during a challenging year defined by a global pandemic—anything can be achieved.

It’s also testament to the perseverance demonstrated by the entire Ursinus community, which rallied together to realize a successful fall semester that included a residential experience for students and both in-person and remote learning.

Last year, Ursinus sought a record 1,869 donors in recognition of its sesquicentennial anniversary. Although the goal was ambitious, the college reached a final tally of 1,953 donors with gifts totaling over $376,000. Donors ranged from current and future students to faculty, staff, parents, and alumni from all over the country.
