The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy has awarded Dr. Denise Finney, Associate Professor of Biology, the 2022 Teaching Excellence Environmental Award. The Conservancy annually honors a select few local community members, organizations, municipalities, and businesses for their dedication and contributions to the Perkiomen Creek Watershed. The award recognizes Dr. Finney’s significant contribution to improving or preserving the Perkiomen Creek Watershed. Upon conferring the award, PWC Director of Conservation, Beth Myers (UC ’17) noted, “Not only do you do the important job of teaching students at Ursinus College about the crucial role of native plants, but you also inspire students to develop and implement their own native planting projects on campus and beyond. You also go above and beyond, by providing students with such wonderful research opportunities and by helping to connect the local community by helping to host community food systems discussions. You and your students have also dedicated time to help plant and maintain the Conservancy’s Pawpaw Orchard and other community projects.” PWC has produced a brief video celebrating this award which can be viewed here.
