First-Year Show and Tell Transforms Ritter Exterior

Last fall, over 350 first year students brought in objects and pictures of people, pets, and things that brought them comfort in their transition to college.

CIE coordinator and Associate Professor of Art and Art History in Sculpture and Drawing Cari Freno assembled a team of six artists to draw the 350-something items in red marker. The hundreds of images now adorn three previously blank spaces on the walls outside Ritter.

The six artists included Curatorial Assistant Teddi Caputo ’18, Assistant Professor of Art and Art History in Printing and Printmaking David Aipperspach, Philadelphia artists Beth Heinly (bethheinly.com/about), Marie Elaine Lampe (marielainelamp.com), and Jean-Jacques Gabriel (www.jeanjacquesgabriel.com/#art), plus Freno herself.

What did they learn? “Turns out people like animals and other people,” said Freno. “That’s what I found out.”
