When former presidents John Strassburger and Bobby Fong signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) and the Climate and Sustainability Plan (CSAP), respectively, they committed Ursinus to not just writing a climate and sustainability plan, but also to reporting on the College’s progress toward our goals. In January 2015, our first progress report was due to the ACUPCC. Our Office of Sustainability completed and submitted that progress report on time, allowing us to stay in good standing as a signatory school of the ACUPCC.
Our 2015 progress report showed that we have made some progress toward our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2060. And while we have reduced our gross greenhouse gas emissions by almost 3,000 MTCO2 since 2008, our emissions are now creeping back up. This reflects a need for renewed focus on lowering our use of GHG emitting fuels as well as the need to change behavior.
