Past & Present Ursinus Students at Shape PA Conference
On October 26 & 27, Ursinus Health & Exercise Physiology student, Ryan Woomer (Class of 2026), attended the Shape PA Convention as a Student Ambassador. The convention was hosted at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, PA by the Society of Health & Physical Educators Pennsylvania (SHAPE PA).
SHAPE PA is a volunteer-run organization that works to promote and enhance health and physical education across the state.
Ryan was invited to the convention by Linda Miller (Class of 1984). Linda has been an active member of SHAPE PA since graduating, and is now the volunteer coordinator for the Student Ambassador program. While at Ursinus, Linda was a Health & Physical Education major, as well as a 3 sport athlete, playing field hockey, basketball and track and field. She taught health for 15 years, and also served as the Faculty & Staff Wellness Coordinator for Hempfield School District.
As a Student Ambassador, Ryan attended several presentations over the two-day period. The presentations focused on classroom management, how to meet the ever-changing needs of students, and how to link health standards to classroom lessons.
Ryan also networked with other professionals, including his former Health and Physical Education teacher, Bo Shappell, of Daniel Boone School District.
Ryan said he learned so much from the people he met, and will be able to carry the information when he becomes a teacher. Overall it was an awesome experience, and he hopes to attend the convention for years to come.
Thank you Ryan and Linda!
