Senior Eliana Katz Honored for Excellence in Latin American Studies

Senior Eliana Katz received the Janice Bond Award and Plaque for outstanding senior in the Philadelphia area.

The award, given by the Pan American Association of Philadelphia, recognized Eliana for her excellence in Latin American Studies and her involvement in Hispanic communities. Eliana is a Spanish and Biology major whose Summer Fellows Project, “Defending Forest Livelihoods: Understanding Forest Change and its Social Implications in Nicaragua,” combined her interests in Latin America and the environment. Her Spanish senior thesis, “Raza en la región del canal de Panamá,” analyzed representations of racial resistance in two short stories about the Panama Canal. Eliana currently interns as a volunteer medical interpreter at the Phoenixville Clinic and leads an Adult Spanish Book Club at the Royersford Library.
