Modern Languages

All Majors & Minors

Alyssa Kurtz

Why did you decide to become a language major?

I decided to become a Spanish major because I had been studying the language in high school and I knew I wanted to continue throughout college. I desired to study abroad and become fluent in a second language. I chose to go to Madrid, Spain last year and had a wonderful experience.

I am a pre-med student and a knowledge of Spanish has been very helpful in the medical community. I hope to be able to use Spanish and my knowledge of medicine to reach out to more people as a doctor.

What has been your most rewarding experience in your language major?

I am currently a Spanish intern at a free medical clinic in West Chester (Community Volunteers in Medicine). I interpret for patients that are unable to speak English. This clinic is for people without the resources to afford their healthcare. It is very rewarding to me to be able to help the patients and contribute in some way to the community.

What are your plans after Ursinus?

I am attending medical school and hopefully using my Spanish to make me a better doctor.
