April Edwards

April Edwards, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Interim Dean of the College, has prior experience as department chair, program coordinator, founding center director, and associate dean.  She is a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, having received her PhD in textual data mining from Lehigh University in 2003.  Dr. Edwards is an internationally recognized expert on cyberbullying detection and prevention, has over 43 peer reviewed publications, and has received over $1.1 million in extramural funding to support her research. In addition to academic departments and programs, Dr. Edwards oversees:  Library and Information Technology, Registrar, Career and Professional Development, International Programs, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Office of Civic Engagement, the Teaching and Learning Institute, the Center for Writing and Speaking, the Office of Sustainability and three interdisciplinary centers.

  • TherAPPist: Using Mobile Technology to Aid Therapy (in collaboration with Prof. Cathy Chambliss, Dept of Psychology)
  • Chatcoder: NSF funded project on cyber crime (in collaboration with Prof. Lynne Edwards, Dept of Media and Communication Studies)
  • Latent Semantic Indexing: Studying the theoretical foundations of a well-known information retrieval technique
