At UCARE, Katie supports collaborations between passionate Ursinus College students and our committed partners in the greater Philadelphia community. She does this by cultivating relationships with nonprofit organizations and coordinating meaningful opportunities in which students take a hands-on approach to social change. She is working to promote a campus culture of civic engagement and works closely with students to develop their civic leadership skills.
Katie advises the UCARE Service Fellows, the Bonner Leaders, and the Scholars in Service. She is constantly inspired by the thoughtfulness and creativity of Ursinus students and feels grateful to be a part of this community of learners, leaders, thinkers, movers + shakers!
Prior to joining UCARE, Katie served for two years as an AmeriCorps Fellow at a nonprofit community resource center called LIFT-Philadelphia. At LIFT, Katie formed partnerships with Philadelphia area colleges and universities (including Ursinus!) to recruit, train, and support a team of volunteer Advocates and Interns who assist members of the community in LIFTing themselves and their families out of poverty for good.
Katie is a native Ohioan and a Buckeye at heart, though she has called Philadelphia her second home since August 2011. Katie loves to cook and eat, read both fiction and non-fiction, explore the city and go on hikes, play with her two cats, enjoy coffee and tea, and play stringed instruments.
