Student employees will support the Theater & Dance department’s productions, specifically in the areas of technical production, as required by a specific production’s needs. Students will learn and practice a variety of skills (depending on the needs of the production) including scenic carpentry, metalworking, scenic painting, and theatrical rigging. In addition, students will assist in scheduled maintenance and organization of shop and theater gear and equipment.
Requirements and Qualifications
Students must be comfortable with ladder work and heights, and comfortable working with power tools. Work is done in the Kaleidoscope’s scene shop, Lenfest Theater, and Blackbox Studio Theater, under the direct supervision of the Theater & Dance department’s Technical Director. Schedule may vary weekly. Shop hours are typically scheduled in the afternoons during the week. Some evening and weekend hours will likely be required during a p roduction’s tech weekend. Typical work week may average between 10 and 20 hours. Prior experience in technical theater is preferred, but not required.
