Responsibilities

General Description:

Dispatchers play a critical role in emergency communication and response. Dispatchers may handle multiple emergencies simultaneously, working independently in a fast-paced work environment while triaging calls, following established procedures, dispatching emergency personnel, and monitoring various notification systems. Dispatchers also provide clerical and customer service assistance within the Campus Safety Office throughout the academic year.

 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Receive and triage phone calls
  • Dispatch Safety Officers utilizing two-way radio system
  • Dispatch UC EMS via two-way radio system and paging system
  • Complete satisfactory performance audits
  • Log all calls and routine activity in accordance with documentation policies 


Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative and clerical tasks as assigned by Campus Safety Officers, Campus Safety Associates, or Student Affairs Staff

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications: Minimum GPA: 2.5; Good academic and social standing with the college. Professional demeanor; Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to effectively deal with people in difficult situations; Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously; Remain calm in stressful situations; Strong knowledge of campus and community resources; Ability to work independently; Ability to closely follow established policies and procedures; Strong work ethic and commitment to job responsibilities; ability to type accurately and quickly on a computer.

 

Scheduling & Remuneration:

  • Mandatory training sessions in August and January
    • Will require early return to campus
  • Must observe one rotating shift (9pm-3am Friday or Saturday) for training
  • Monthly staff meetings
  • Two or more individual training sessions with Campus Safety Associates
  • On-going training throughout the year – online or in-person
  • Required Weekly Hours – Maintain a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Required Weekend Hours
    • Three or four shifts per semester
