Bill Racich, Head Wrestling Coach

About

On Dec. 13, 2015, Ursinus College head wrestling coach Bill Racich earned his 500th career win, an impressive milestone during a storied career that began at Ursinus during the 1980-81 season. But rather focus on himself, he’d prefer to talk about his students, past and present, and their accomplishments.

“When I first came here, there were three kids on the team and I had to recruit within the campus,” he says. “We still had a successful year. But getting the student-athletes to the next level is the goal. My surgeon — a top orthopedic surgeon — wrestled for me. One of my former All-Americans is an FBI agent. I had kids who are now attorneys, business owners, and that’s the real win in my life.”

Racich is one of only three Division III-only wrestling coaches to reach 500 wins. Under Racich, the Bears have won 11 Centennial Conference titles. He coached 53 Centennial Conference champions and more than 200 Middle Atlantic and Centennial Conference place winners.

Racich has seen 16 All-Americans and two GTE-CoSida Academic All-Americans go through his program. In the Centennial Conference, five Ursinus wrestlers have won the prestigious Chris Clifford Award, while six others were named Outstanding Wrestler at the conference championship meet.
