Mark came to Ursinus College in November, 2011 reporting to the Senior Vice President for Advancement. He is responsible for managing the major and planned giving efforts at Ursinus College, with a special emphasis on growing the endowment and ensuring that the Advancement office has a strategic plan to secure funding for major projects identified and prioritized by the leadership of the College. In addition, he personally works on gift planning strategies with the College’s top donors to secure gifts of $100,000+.
As a results-oriented, senior management level professional, Mark has more than 25 years of experience building profitable businesses in the financial services industry and directing highly successful major and planned gift fundraising programs for non-profit organizations. Having worked in senior-level positions at DePauw University, Union College and Washington College, he has a strong commitment to liberal arts education.
In addition to his non-profit experience, Mark also has held senior director positions in investment management and financial and estate planning areas at such prestigious firms as SEI Investments and Fleet Investment Services where he headed up the charitable gift planning area for the bank. Early in his career, Mark practiced as a Certified Financial Planner and achieved other professional designations and licenses in the financial services industry.
Mark earned his undergraduate degree in music at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. He is a percussionist, and played professionally for many years, including the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, though he says, “My favorite thing is playing drum set and jazz.” He then did post-graduate work in music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Mark lives in West Chester, PA with his wife, Karen – also a development professional. Their family passion is sailing, spending as much time as possible sailing their boat on the Chesapeake during the summer. Gadson laughs and shares that “We are a total water family and go stir crazy during the winter months.” You may also find him playing drums whenever and wherever he can.
